A Cautionary Tale of Picking Pet Breeds

As someone who has worn the shoes of a pet owner multiple times and in various sizes, I can share a slice of my life that still feels as vivid as yesterday's sunset. Let me preface this by saying I've had my fair share of experiences with pets, having owned all three of the breeds I'm about to discuss. And let me tell you, not all that glitters is gold when it comes to choosing the right canine companion, especially if you’re a first-time owner with plenty of time and space.

One of these breeds is the powerful pit bull. I remember I weighed in at a hefty 18 stone my body weight, and I thought I could handle any dog. That was until one heart-stopping incident. Picture it: me and my PitBull, in what I can only describe as an impromptu wrestling match that lasted a staggering 30 minutes. No exaggeration here, folks – this dog was on its hind legs, and the sheer power it unleashed was something out of this world.

By some stroke of luck and thanks to my strength and body weight at the time, I managed to free my full-size breeding sow from the ironclad grip of the Pitbull’s jaws. The challenge was not just holding back the muscle-packed pooch, but actually unfurling its locked mouth and then coaxing it away from the pig.

The following day was one of the toughest in my life. Despite its usual loving demeanor, the safety of my young kids had to come first. The decision I had to make was gut-wrenching but necessary. It's a stark reminder that assessing a pet's temperament and your own living situation is crucial when bringing a new furry member into the family.
